Introduction to ISSB | Inter Services Selection Board.

In this post, we will discuss ISSB (Inter Services Selection Board) in detail.

Introduction:

ISSB (Inter Services Selection Board) is an Inter Services body of Armed Forces of Pakistan. It is assigned the task to select the future officers of Pakistan Army, Navy and Airforce. A candidate after clearing all its initial recruitment Process is called for ISSB tests. A candidate recommended by ISSB for commission in Armed Forces of Pakistan then undergo final medical and merit list procedures.

ISSB Centres:

ISSB is conducted at below mentioned fours stations:

• Kohat Centre
• Malir Cantt, Karachi
• Gujranwala Cantt
• Quetta Cantt

ISSB Kohat centre is the largest and oldest of all centres.

Qualification for ISSB:

Generally, these initial tests are conducted at recruitment centres of Armed Forces.

• Initial Computerized Test
• Initial Medical Test
• Physical Test
• Initial Interview

If a candidate clear all these steps, he is provided with an ISSB form. He is given the time of 3-5 days to fill it and duly attest it from relevant institutes and submit it back to the Recruitment centre with suppoerting documents . These forms are forwarded to the ISSB centres and then they approach candidate for ISSB Tests.

How ISSB Approach Candidates:

• Schedule of ISSB is updated for next six months on ISSB website in January and July every year
• There is an offical website of ISSB: https://issb.gov.pk/ where the status is updated regulalry. A candidate can check his status by putting his CNIC number 
• ISSB also sends a call letter by Post to the candidates postal address provided on ISSB Form.
• In most cases, they also make a telephone call to candidate 1-2 days before reporting day.

Important Items to carry with you for ISSB:

• Dress Pent Shirt or Shalwar Kameez and Pair of Shoes for Interview
• A white shirt and shorts for GTO outdoor tasks. You can also buy it from ISSB centre shop.
• A white pair of joggers/Sports shoes for GTO tasks
• Trousers and shirts or dress to wear in spare time
• A pair of shoe to wear in spare time
• Your necessary items like Soap, Shampoo, Towel or book etc.

Reporting Day and Stay:

• Your reporting time is mentioned on the letter and also communicated to you by call.  Report on the given time
• After security checks, you will be taken inside ISSB Centre, You will place your bags at the place provided to you at report at Johar Hall
• Meal is also provided; if you report in morning, Lunch is provided.
• You are alloted a chest number  and a photograph is taken. 
• You have to fill bio data and some other forms. A essay is to be written in the Biodata form. Essay topic is told by the staff.
• After all the formalities and filling of forms, you are free to go to your rooms.
• You stay at ISSB is 4-5 days. No mobile phone use is allowed at ISSB. It is collected from you on the reporting day.

Facilities Provided at ISSB Centre:

• Free Accomodation
• Free 3 times meal during your stay
• Refreshment at 9AM or 10AM 
• Sports facilities like Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Snooker etc
• Books and Television at TV Hall.
• Masjid for offering prayer
• Paid laundry service

Tests at ISSB:

These three officers conducts various tests at ISSB Centre:

• Psychologist
• GTO (Group Testing Officer)
• Deputy Superintendent

Psychologist:

• Intelligence Tests
• Screening of candidates on the basis of intelligence Test

These tests are conducted which are then checked by Psychologist:

• Mechanical Aptitude Test
• Sentence Completetion Test Urdu and English
• Words Association Test
• Situation Reaction Test
• Pointer Stories
• Picture Stories
• OPI Test
• Merits & Demerits
• Interview by Psychologist (Optional)

GTO (Group Testing Officer):

These indoor tests are conducted by GTO

• Group Discussion
• Lecturate
• Group Planning/Military Planning

These outdoor tests are conducted by GTO

• Progressive Group Task
• Half Group Task
• Command Task
• Individual Obstacles
• Final Group Task

Deputy President:

Deputy President conducts an interview of the candidate. He asks questions from basic maths, general knowledge, conditional questions etc.

Conferences:

On the last day of ISSB, Conferences are held. Some candidates are called for Re-Interview, Re-Obstacles, Re-Command Task etc. After the completion of all these activities, all candidates are allowed leave ISSB centre. 

Result: 

• The Result of ISSB is announced at 11:00 AM the date after you left ISSB centre.
• Result is also communicated to you by Post
• If you are Recommended, then your documents will be kept by ISSB and Recommendation letter and Final Medical Letter are sent to you by post
• If you are Not Recommended, then your documents along with Not Recommendation Letter are sent to you by post
